💬 Building Your Personal Brand Through Comments

While creating original content on LinkedIn is valuable to build your personal brand, thoughtful commenting can be an equally powerful way to build your professional reputation (and can be a wayyy easier lift to execute).

We’ve been able to build personal brands on LinkedIn reaching 70K+ professionals through our personal channels alone, so we know how time intensive content creation can be, but what most people don’t know or realize is that the comments section is actually where the real magic happens.

Strategic commenting offers a ton of advantages:

  • Lower barrier to entry than creating full posts

  • Demonstrates expertise in your field

  • Increases visibility within relevant conversations

  • Builds relationships with industry leaders and peers

  • Shows engagement with current industry trends

Moving Beyond "Great Post!" Comments

Generic comments like "Congrats!" or "Great insight!" do very little to showcase your expertise or add value to conversations. Plus it makes it sooo much harder for others to add commentary on top of what you’ve written if that’s all you share.

Here's how to craft comments that strengthen your personal brand:

1.🌟 Add Contextual Value

Expand on the original post by adding relevant information, statistics, or perspectives that enrich the conversation. This positions you as someone who thinks deeply about industry topics.

For example:

2. 💯 Share Personal Experience

Connect the post's topic to your own professional experience, showing practical application of concepts being discussed.

3. 💡 Ask Thoughtful Questions

Demonstrate critical thinking by asking questions that push the conversation forward or explore implications of the original post.

4. 📊 Provide Constructive Feedback

Respectfully offer alternative viewpoints or additional considerations that might enhance the original perspective. Note: proceed with caution with this approach - there’s definitely a balance here.

5. 🏆 Connect to Broader Trends

Show your industry awareness by linking the post's topic to wider market trends or developments in sports, media, & entertainment.
